Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte was impeached Wednesday on a range of accusations that include plotting to assassinate the president, large-scale corruption and failing to strongly denounce China's aggressive actions against Filipino forces in the disputed South China Sea.

On Wednesday, 215 members of the 306-seat House of Representatives voted to impeach Duterte, charging her with “violation of the constitution, betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption, and other high crimes”.

A petition seeking the impeachment of Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte, the daughter of the country's former president, received the required support on Wednesday of more than a third of lower-house lawmakers,
