Old friends and colleagues are remembering Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office Deputy Elijah Ming for his leadership, integrity and bright smile. Ming was shot and killed in the line of duty Saturday. He was 34 years old and a nine-year veteran of the force.

The father of Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Deputy Elijah Ming remembered his son Monday, saying he was the definition of a “good dude.”

“He left a lot of footprints on all of our hearts, and he will forever be remembered and missed,” said Denisha Acon, who used to work with Ming at the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office. Acon said she was at work when she got the call and wanted to go home, but knew that’s not what Ming would’ve wanted.

KBI reported that as the two officials approached the front door, a man inside began shooting at them. Deputy Ming was hit.
