More than 130 firefighters battled a fire involving fireworks explosions that engulfed four homes in Pacoima and critically injured a woman on Thursday night, authorities said.

One person is dead after a house fire in Simi Valley, which authorities determined to be caused by explosions from fireworks on Thursday afternoon. Luzdelia Caballero reports.

A person was killed after an explosion at a Simi Valley home on Thursday, the Ventura County Fire Department said. The explosion was possibly caused by fireworks, the fire department said. The explosion happened in the garage of the home in the 1600 block of Edmund Street.

In the weeks leading up to the holiday, Gary Souza and around 60 fellow pyrotechnicans are focused entirely on finalizing the 49th annual Macy’s show. But they are not strolling along the Brooklyn Bridge where it will take place, nor are they balancing aboard one of the four barges in the East River that will supply additional launch points.

Some residents from the small Yolo County community of Esparto recounted what they witnessed during a fireworks explosion that has left seven unaccounted for.
