NASA's acting administrator Sean Duffy plans to accelerate the construction of a nuclear reactor that could be used on the moon and alter the way NASA will partner with industry to replace the aging International Space Station.

President Donald Trump’s NASA chief Sean Duffy has expedited the timeline to build a nuclear reactor on the moon, according to a directive obtained by The Independent. The space agency has already mentioned the benefits of developing fission surface power (FSP) on the moon and Mars.

The move will likely be Duffey's first major move as interim NASA administrator, a position that President Donald Trump named him to in early July
