Firefighters on Maui are responding to an active brush fire in the Kahikinui Homestead area around Mile Marker 24 on Piʻilani Hwy on the southern slope of Haleakalā.

A brushfire in Maui, Hawaii, rapidly grew from a quarter-acre to 500 acres on Sunday, the authorities said.

An active brush fire was reported near Kahikinui and prompted an emergency evacuation order on Sunday morning. MEMA Officials activated the evacuation order around 11 a.m. and reported that the public should leave immediately as there was a dangerous threat to life and property.
