EVERETT — A man was in critical condition Thursday night after he was shot by police following a chaotic multi-city chase involving a stolen trash truck and several crashes, including one here on the Alford Street Bridge, law enforcement authorities said.

The motorcycle slid and struck the police car, according to William McVey, the director of public safety for the Bensalem Police Department. The motorcyclist then ran away. The officer issued verbal commands, but police say the man did not listen. The officer then shot the motorcyclist, investigators said.
