Rose Girone, the oldest known Holocaust survivor and someone who suffered at the hands of Germany and Japan during World War II, has died at the age 113, her daughter, Reha Bennicasa, confirmed Thursday.

Holocaust survivor Rose Girone died at the age of 113 on the morning of Monday, Feb. 24, according to her daughter Reha Bennicasa.

Rose Girone, regarded as the oldest Holocaust survivor, passed away at 111. Born in Germany, Girone survived while pregnant during WWII, eventually fleeing to Shanghai. Her legacy is one of strength,

She fled Nazi Germany in 1939 with her husband and baby only to be forced into a Jewish ghetto in Shanghai. Still, she would often say, “Aren’t we lucky?”

The longtime Queens resident, who ran a knitting shop in Forest Hills, fled Poland and Germany for Shanghai before immigrating to the U.S. in 1947.
