The US State Department told embassies and consulates they must vet student visa applicants for “hostile attitudes towards our citizens, culture, government, institutions, or founding principles” but said they may resume appointments that were paused in late May.

The department says consular officers will be on the lookout for posts and messages that could be deemed hostile to the United States, its government, culture, institutions or founding principles.

The State Department announced Wednesday the U.S. will restart interviews and process foreign student visas, but it now will ask applicants to make their social media public for vetting, with potential denial if they refuse.
