Virginia on Friday became the latest state to escalate the nationwide redistricting battle ahead of November’s midterm elections that will determine which party controls the US House during the final two years of President Donald Trump’s time in office.

Voters will now get a say over whether the current maps can be redrawn ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

Virginia's 2026 General Assembly session began with Democrats wielding expanded power after retaking all three statewide offices and securing a 64-seat majority in the House of Delegates.
