Protesters gather outside Motor City Casino as Trump delivers remarks to Detroit Economic Club
While President Trump was speaking on Tuesday to the Detroit Economic Club inside the Motor City Casino, dozens of people gathered outside to protest his visit.
Hundreds of protesters expressed their opposition to President Donald Trump and his policies. Two people were arrested for disobeying an officer.
Hours before the president was set to arrive, demonstrators rallied at the Spirit of Detroit calling on local elected leaders to stymie Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in the city.
Trump's remarks at the Detroit Economic Club, which at times strayed off topic, came as many Americans remain concerned about high prices. A recent Quinnipiac University poll found 64% of registered voters said the cost of living is a "very serious problem" in the United States.
Advocates held a protest and crowded a Detroit City Council meeting, calling on city leaders to limit ICE enforcement. Some also sought sanctuary city status.
