Kris Kristofferson, who wrote indelible songs about lovers, loners, boozers and a footloose pair of hitchhikers — and who later became a screen star, appearing in dozens of films — has died at age 88.

He wrote songs for hundreds of other artists, including “Me and Bobby McGee” for Janis Joplin and “Sunday Morning Coming Down” for Johnny Cash, before a second act in film. Kris Kristofferson in 1970.

Kristofferson, who wrote indelible songs about lovers, loners and boozers, has died at age 88. He later became a screen star. His performance in "A Star Is Born" earned him a Golden Globe in 1976.
