Indian authorities provide Nipah virus update as number of people in quarantine doubles - Data shows only two confirmed infections reported since December

The virus has a fatality rate ranging from 40 per cent to 75 per cent, according to health experts. There is currently no approved vaccine or cure, making early containment and monitoring critical.

The Times of India reported today (Wednesday, January 8) that earlier this month, five healthcare workers in West Bengal were infected with the Nipah virus, with one reported to be in critical condition. Around 110 people who had contact with these patients have been quarantined.
