A person has been arrested after a car was driven into a security gate outside the White House late Tuesday, according to the Secret Service. The agency has refused to say whether they believe the crash was on purpose.

A man was taken into custody for driving his car into a security barrier outside the White House, authorities said.

It's part of a plan to build a new ballroom that is expected to be about 90,000 total square feet, with a seated capacity of 600 people. It will cost upwards of $200 million, according to White House officials, who added that the money would be donated by President Donald Trump and others.

The White House has started tearing down part of the East Wing to build the ballroom President Donald Trump wants added to the building.

The White House has pushed back hard on that criticism and dismissed what it called “manufactured outrage” over the construction.
