Despite 35 Triple-A games and just 600 at-bats overall in the minors, Shaw is expected to be a big part of the 2025 Cubs.

Shaw is expected to make his major-league debut in the Tokyo Series. The Cubs will have to clear a 40-man-roster spot to activate him, but they don’t have to make any moves until just before Opening Day in Japan.

According to MLB.com, infielder Matt Shaw is the No.1 ranked Chicago Cubs prospect. The right-handed hitting Shaw, 23, has an excellent chance to break Cubs camp as part of the team’s 26-man roster. In fact, fangraphs.com lists Shaw as the Cubs starting third baseman, hitting 8th in the lineup.
