There are three certainties in life: death, taxes and the New England Patriots hiring Josh McDaniels to be their offensive coordinator. McDaniels is returning to New England to serve as the Patriots' offensive coordinator for a third time, the team announced on Wednesday.
The Patriots interviewed Josh McDaniels on Tuesday. Not surprisingly, they are expected to hire McDaniels as their offensive coordinator, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports. McDaniels returns to a familiar job. He previously held that role from 2006-08 before becoming the Broncos’ head coach and from 2012-21 before taking over the Raiders.
Kelly and Vrabel also have history. They both served as members of Bill O’Brien’s staff with the Houston Texans. Kelly rose up the ranks to offensive coordinator there and survived O’Brien’s firing but not David Culley’s a year later. Vrabel hired him in Tennessee, where he served as passing game coordinator in 2022 and OC in 2023.

When Vrabel was named Titans head coach in 2018, he hired Williams to coach the defensive line, and by 2023 named him assistant head coach and had him serve as head coach of the team's preseason opener. Vrabel cited Williams' ability to "reach every player" across the roster -- including offense.
