The Israeli and Lebanese governments have agreed to implement a ceasefire, after weeks of deadly fighting between Israel and Hezbollah had imperiled broader negotiations between the U.S. and Iran to end their conflict.
The violence has pushed the number of casualties higher, with Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health reporting that at least 3,526 people have been killed and 10,733 wounded in Israeli attacks since March 2.
The U.N. peacekeeping mission for Lebanon, known as UNIFIL, said one peacekeeper was killed and others were wounded when they came under mortar fire in southeastern Lebanon.
Hezbollah rejected the latest cease-fire agreement between Israel and the Lebanese government — as the Iran-backed terror group has demanded the Jewish state’s full withdrawal from Lebanon. After the State Department helped secure a cease-fire deal between Israel and Lebanon on Wednesday,
