A federal judge has largely blocked sweeping executive orders from President Donald Trump that sought to end government support for programs promoting diversity, equity and inclusion.

The jurists are grappling with how to handle a different sort of bid for power by Mr. Trump, sometimes halting his blizzard of executive orders and sometimes letting them move forward.

U.S. District Judge Adam B. Abelson granted a preliminary injunction, which blocks parts of Trump’s directives to cancel federal contracts related to DEI as well as make government contractors verify that will they not engage in DEI practices that violate anti-discrimination laws.
