Overnight, 3-6 inches of snow blanketed southeast Michigan making morning commutes to work Thursday treacherous and closing hundreds of schools and districts, including the Detroit Public Schools, the largest one in the state.

Love is in the air with Valentine’s Day approaching, but so is the snow as it blankets communities in Michigan on Wednesday, Feb. 12. It’s estimated that there should be a four-to-six-inch snow total from Muskegon and Grand Rapids to northeast Lower Michigan, the Saginaw Valley area and southeast Lower Michigan.

A winter storm brought snow to most of Michigan Wednesday evening into Thursday morning. Snow accumulations between 3-6 inches were expected in some portions of Southeast Michigan. Some areas around and south of I-94 may have seen a wintry mix that includes freezing rain or sleet, which led to a light glaze of ice accumulations.
