GOP Rep. Anna Paulina Luna signaled Thursday night that she and Speaker Mike Johnson may have found a way to end their standoff over the issue of remote voting for new parents in Congress.
Luna co-sponsored a bipartisan measure to allow new parents in Congress to vote remotely around the birth of their child. Some conservatives are trying to stop it.
The Pinellas County Republican is pushing to allow new parents the ability to vote by proxy, or remotely, for up to 12 weeks after having a baby.
On Tuesday, nine Republicans joined all Democrats in a 222–206 vote defeating Johnson's procedural rule, which would have blocked Luna from forcing action on the proxy voting proposal. Trump said he was "in favor" of allowing new parents in Congress to vote by proxy while speaking aboard Air Force One on Thursday.
