40 years ago this week the first annual MTV Video Music Awards were held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Madonna stole the show with her sexually-charged performance of the not-yet-released “Like a Virgin,” provocatively crawling around onstage in a lingerie-and-tulle wedding dress.
