Flying squirrels are one of Montana’s rarest wildlife sightings. They are out and about at night and spend much of their time high in the forest canopy. They live in intact forests, need continuous canopy cover, and prefer old growth and large trees. These nocturnal (notice how large their eyes are!) animals glide from tree to tree looking for fungi, nuts, seeds, and insects. All of the secretive, forest-dwelling animals rely on the complexity of life that is supported by healthy forests. Swan V
