Life’s not perfect, but that doesn’t mean it has to be bad all the time, or good all the time either. Your life is meant to be lived, not just finished, it’s not some milestone to check off. We have gotten so used to the idea of optimising every part of our lives, that we are rapidly forgetting the most important part - just being here. I know it sounds corny, I know it feels like we should roll our eyes at hope when the world feels hell-bent on doling out bad days. But it’s an important lesson,

There are only two kinds of thinkers. The first sees the world in terms of one theory that can explain absolutely everything, and the second thinker thinks that these theories are probably just wrong. This is what the philosopher Isaiah Berlin argued in 1953. Berlin argued that if you look at the history of philosophy and how people think today, you will find two different kinds of people. You have hedgehog people and fox people. A hedgehog knows only one thing. They have a single organising ide

One thing I often do in my practice is help parents understand how children think, feel, and behave differently at each developmental stage. We cannot and should not expect children to operate like adults. They are not miniature adults. This video shows a 3-5 year-old children in what Piaget called the pre-operational stage (typically ages 3–7). At this stage, children can focus on only one striking feature of a situation at a time. Their decisions are driven by what is most perceptually obvious

Hi, it's Juliana! Did they often criticize your cooking? Here are my thoughts on why. One of the ways narcissistic people try to feel better about themselves is by finding ways to feel better than others. It's kind of like they're thinking: “If they're doing bad, I'm doing good.” And you cooking for them gives them a PERFECT opportunity to do this. “Why are you using that pan?” “You're cutting those way too big.” “You're putting too much seasoning in it.” “You're going to overcook it.” “It's too

FOR SURE, WE CANNOT REMAIN POOR FOR LIFE. Here is my provocative proposition: For every African economy above US$100 billion, let us pay our Presidents US$10 million a year — for life — after they leave office, whether they served one term or two. Yes. US$10 million. Every year. But let us completely change the conversation while we are at it. I am less interested in cheap leadership than I am in high-performance countries. Build the economy. Grow productivity. Expand the tax base. Industrialise
