NOAA's powerful Global Forecast System model was upgraded today, providing forecasters with a more accurate 4-D picture of how a weather system will evolve. The upgrade is the latest of a number of model improvements rolling out this spring and summer, thanks to increased supercomputing power NOAA acquired earlier this year. The midday run of the American GFS forecast model is in, and this animation shows the progress of an area of low pressure it expects to develop and move east, bringing snow to areas on the north side of the storm. This animation covers the period from Sunday evening through Tuesday night. Most of the snow with this system falls late Monday / early Tuesday. Latest GFS model forecast of upper air temperatures shows the cold air moving down over us Friday and staying over the weekend into Monday but then Atlantic weather try’s to push back in with milder air but uncertain yet if that will happen. | Carlow Weather

The latest run of the American GFS computer forecast model shows that an active weather pattern will continue over the next 10 days, with another threat of snow over southern New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia again next Thursday. The European ECMWF has a similar solution. It is still a while away and a lot can change but we will continue to monitor things and keep you informed in the coming days. | Weatherboy Weather

The Global Forecast System (GFS) is at it again teasing us on the long range - have a look at this thing for later next week! Geezus! The whole east coast gets a spray! Its current track could absolutely annihilate the dreamy sand around the Gold Coast points at the moment - it’s way off, so let’s hope it’s stays away - or it could be a complete fizz. And yes, buy premium they said - we should - but it doesn’t make the long range any more accurate - just has prettier colours. | 18seconds
